Pretty simple replacement device that works great. For my installation, it was as simple as unscrewing the old drain valve and screwing this one in its place. No tape dope and don''t over tighten. I also had to cut the 3/8" nub off since my tank had a 1/2" connection. When I did this, I first opened the valve all the way, then I placed the 3/8"threads in the rubber jaws of my vise. Be gentle with it. I then sawed it off so that the shavings would fall down and not into the valve. I then blew reverse through the valve just to make sure there were no shavings and I also inspected it before turning it the first time. For all of the negative reviews stating that this product leaked from the valve, not the threads, I think at least some of those people got plastic shavings in the valve when they cut off the 3/8" nub and then turned the valve and lodged shavings in between the plastic, thus causing a leak. Also, this is NOT FOR A PRESSURIZED LINE. This is a drain tank valve. Don''t attached it to a pressurized line and then complain that the product sucks.

This was a perfect replacement for the 50gal freshwater tank on my 2006 Keystone Outback 23KRS. The original one had dry rotted out and was leaking. This one looks and fits just like the original. Had to cut the 3/8" off since my tank needed the 1/2" part. Thread sealed perfectly, didn''t need any thread sealer. No leaks for 1.5 months and 3 road trips so far! I have opened it to drain the tank, and it sealed back afterwards for the next fill up with no leaks.
If you have to cut the 3/8" off, DON''T USE A HACKSAW! Just use a box cutter or a razor blade. This way you don''t have any debris, particles, or rough edges that could mess up the seal on it. The plastic is soft enough that you can easily use a good sharp blade for a clean cut.

Sigh... Purchased May 2018. Very lightly used; two trips since then and already dripping out of the valve. It''s not so much the money, it''s a pain to remove/install the drain valve on the trailer.

EDIT July 2021: On a hunch, I applied some silicone faucet grease to the interior of the valve. This seems to have completely stopped the slow drip from the valve.

I first applied the grease to the end of a q-tip. Then inserted it into the closed valve such that the blob of grease would go through the hole in the valve''s rotating internal cylinder, and get smeared on the fixed outer cylinder. Then operated the valve a few times to spread it around. Be sure to use silicone faucet grease (aka plumber''s grease) that''s safe for potable water systems.

Changing from 2 to 4 stars.

How on Earth can you make/sell a pex valve that isn''t water-tight?!

It''s made completely of plastic, and the valve handle spins freely without any stop in it.

What I ended up doing instead was going to the local hardware store, getting a couple brass PEX valves, some pipe clamps, and some sealant tape, for a total of about $13.50 each ($27 total since I''m doing 2), which works great and will be much more durable.

I was hopeful this would make draining the tank easier and replace the cross threaded nylon drain plug. My brand of hot watpoper tank does not have an anode rod so I have to remove the plug to drain. I put it in, all good. Got to campsite, fired up the water heater. Went outside a little bit later and heard water running, looked at the hot water heater, yep water coming from there. Ok, maybe I didn''t get the plug tightened down, grabbed the plug with my fingers to check, SURPRISE SHOWER, the on off toggle pops off and sprays water all over me. I had high hopes but will just replace with another nylon plug and keep spares on hand.

Was a good solution for my Fleetwood (Coleman) tent trailer''s fresh water tank. Rather than having to get the pliers each time we packed up, I can just flip the valve. Some reviewers have pointed out that due to the design, you cannot turn the valve all the way towards the tank. While this is true, you do not need to. In fact, doing so would actually open the valve. Closed is at a 90 degree angle. Open is straight out.

A qarter turn opens or closes the valve. My only consern is that the threaded shaft that fits into the tank seemed a bit weak or soft. It is holding well so far and doing the job. It just was not as hard a plastic as the originle. All-in-all I am quite pleased.
